Important Link in North and South ltoa<l. ? ill he l.et Tuesday Tti.- Atlantic CmiKUl Highway, on which Elizabeth Citv is situ ated. has made uioie wondi iru! strides this year than any othcr highway in the Cnked Staffs, ac cord in u to a letter from r. o. Mil l'*r. of; Jacksonville, president of tlir S. 111th Atlantic Coastal High way Association, to I'. H. Wil liams, ci r i ft *h city, one ot North Carolina's two Stale chairmen. This highway runs from Maine to Tlorida. following the short route along the Atlantic seaboard and t tins is 200 miles shorter than any other North and South rout-, accord in it to association officials. In the course of the year, a gre;u new bridge was r?|?en?'d at Savan nah and many miles of hardsur facing were finished. Prom the standpoint of this part ot th.- highway, much im portance attaches to the letting of contract by the State lliuhway Com mission next Tuesday for construction of a IttOO.ouo bridge across the lower Chowan River near l-Metiton. This, it is antici pated. will serva to link this part of North Carolina with the ie maindei of the State in a way only partially accomplished through construction of the Win ton bridge, many miles farther up the Chowan. It is expected also that completion of the bridge will serve to bring many more tourists through this part of the State. President Miller's letter to Mr. Williams follows: "As the year draws to a close j we teel very much gratified with the results obtained rcgatdless of the many difficulties that wc have had to contend with and 1 am sure it will be very gratifying to you to learn that the Atlantic Coastal Highway hns made more wonderful strides this year than any other highway in the I'nltcd States. "This condition of affairs J* due altogetlM r t-? the splendid, unselfish support and co-opi-ration given us from time to time by yourseif. and other chairmen of the association, and we are under everlasting obligations to all of our Stat" and county chairmen for Ho* work they have performed in the interest of this great move , meut. "We are taking this opportun ity to express to you our sincere thanks and dei p appreciation for the services you have rendered, and to wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy; probpci - ous New Year."
